About Nick Hanna

For over 20 years I’ve been a freelance writer, which has allowed me to travel around the world and experience some of the great natural wonders of the planet. My passion for the environment began as a teenager, when I led protest marches to Save the Whales; in my twenties I was an editor on the alternative magazine Undercurrents, which championed renewables, organic food, and self-sufficiency.

As a travel writer my speciality was scuba diving, and I’ve written extensively about the reef environment and human impacts, most notably in The Greenpeace Book of Coral Reefs (1992). Since then I’ve written numerous other books, from the best-selling Rough Guide to the Millennium (1999) to The Art of Diving (2005) which was hailed as ‘the best book about diving since Jacques Cousteau’s Silent World'.

With the publication of the Stern Review in 2006 the starker realities of global warming hit home and I decided I needed a change of direction - and to fly less. At this time I became a director of an investment company and since then myself and my co-directors have shifted the focus of the company into green investments. It’s from researching these opportunities, and finding our way through the emerging low-carbon landscape of the future, that this website has evolved. In order to broaden my financial knowledge, last year I studied for the Certificate in Financial Planning with the Chartered Insurance Institute (London).

TheGreenInvestmentGuide is intended to be an indispensable companion to the low carbon economy. Please note that the content is intended as a source of general information only: consumers should seek professional advice before making investment decisions.
